NASPO Mission Statement

NASPO is a not-for-profit, standards organization that defines, documents, and maintains relevant security risk management standards for reducing:

      • Financial fraud
      • Identity document fraud
      • The dilution of brand integrity

NASPO will train and certify security products providers and users to the appropriate level of those standards.

NASPO will also participate in organized industry wide anti-fraud initiatives.

NASPO will focus on North America but certify users globally.

NASPO Purpose

NASPO was founded in 2002 by companies and individuals in the security products industry that recognized the need for the control of secure products and technologies. To provide a recognized framework, NASPO developed an authoritative set of standards and auditing practices focused on the principle of control using the concept of risk management.

As the only North American authority, NASPO enables security products firms to classify and validate their ability to deliver either high, medium or basic levels of security assurance throughout their operations.

NASPO designs standards to help certified organizations identify and define risks for the fraudulent acquisition, circumvention, mimicry or subversion of their security products or information.

The end user's choice of a NASPO-certified supplier enhances the security value of the products and materials supplied. This is achieved through the control and restriction to access of critical security technologies and information.

Producers

Suppliers

Brand Owners

Security Consultants

Producers who supply secure products must understand the inherent responsibilities to their customers and to the public. Those who fail to safeguard the manufacturing environment are a threat to the credibility of the entire security products industry. For this reason, NASPO differentiates between "uncertified product providers" and "Certified Security Product Producers."

Suppliers have a responsiblilty to insure that the raw materials utilized in a secure production facility are carefully distributed through authorized and accountable methods. Failures in safeguarding the supply chain can result in increases in counterfeit products that are potentially costly and dangerous. NASPO certifies suppliers and their operations to mitigate these risks.

Brand protection is one of the most difficult challenges in our modern society. By some estimates over 15% of the branded products sold worldwide are counterfeits. NASPO provides a means to protect brand owners by certification of the chains of possession, before products are manufactured, through the chains of distribution after the products leave the factory floor.

As NASPO grows, there is an increasing need for qualified individuals who can help advise and consult with Producers, Suppliers, and Brand Owners regarding risk mitigation and supply chain security. Consultancy membership is ideal for those individuals with a background in security document manufacturing, law enforcement, and/or auditing and accounting.
